Ramadan Space – First Ashra

Seeking Allah's Mercy

And as for those who strive in Our path — We will surely guide them in Our ways. And verily Allah is with those who do good.

Surah Al-`Ankabut (Chapter 29, Verse 70)

The Holy Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be on him) said:

“He who observes the fast during Ramadan out of sincerity of faith and in hope of earning merit will have his past sins forgiven him.”

(Bokhari and Muslim)

Two Types of Mercy:

"God's Mercy is General and Extensive"

“My mercy encompasses all things; so I will ordain it for those who act righteously”

(Surah Al-A`raf, Chapter 7, Verse 157)

The Promised Messiah (as) explained: ‘This verse indicates that God’s mercy is general and extensive whereas punishment owing to Divine attribute of justice comes into operation after specific action is taken by man. (Tafseer Hazrat Masih e Maud, Vol. II, p. 566)

"Mercy which is conditional to good deeds"

“Surely, the mercy of Allah is nigh unto those who do good”

(Surah Al-A`raf, Chapter 7, Verse 157)

[The Arabic word used here for those who do good is mohsin]

God’s mercy is with the mohsin who spends a righteous life and who is good to others and fulfils their rights.

Hazraht Khalifatul Masih V (aba) – Friday Sermon 10th July 2015

“Allah the Almighty has given various commandments with regard to fasting and has given us the glad tidings that by acting upon these commandments, He will grant us His nearness and accept our prayers. “

(Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (aba), Friday Sermon, 16th April 2021)

Fasting and Becoming Closer to God 🤲

” I wish to say that it is incredibly vital, especially during the month of Ramadan, when everyone should strive to recite at least one full part [juz’] of the Holy Quran daily so that they can complete an entire reading. (Friday Sermon 22nd March 2024)”

(Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (aba) – Friday Sermon 22nd March 2024)

Dive into the Holy Qur’an 🤲

The month of Ramadan is that in which the Qur’an was sent down as a guidance for mankind with clear proofs of guidance and discrimination.

Surah Al-Baqarah (Chapter 2, Verse 186)

The Promised Messiah (as) said:

“It should be remembered that the fast does not mean merely that a person should abstain from food and drink over a certain period. During the fast one should be occupied greatly with the remembrance of God.”

(Essence of Islam, Vol. 2, p. 316)

Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (May Allah Be his Helper) states:

“Allah is so forgiving in ordinary times then during Ramadan His mercy must shower down. Fortunate are those who take advantage of His mercy and His forgiveness”

(Friday Sermon – 19th September 2008)

When can one skip a fast?

But whoso is sick or is on a journey, shall fast the same number of other days.

Surah Al-Baqarah (Chapter 2, Verse 186)

They are sick:

If one is unwell or taking medication for example diabetics cannot fast if they have to take insulin. This also includes if someone has to receive any form injection.

They are on a journey:

When one is travelling they are not to fast.

Once the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was on a journey and he saw a crowd around a person over whom a shade had been erected. He asked what was the matter, and the people replied that the man was fasting. The Holy Prophet replied, it was no virtue to keep a fast while travelling.
