Radiant Stars made a dream start with a very comfortable win against the challenging Mighty Strikers
The strikers were in good spirits playing their second fixture in the KCL after a week of rained-off matches in the league. With the weather finally permitting a game to go ahead, they were up against a revamped Radiant Stars side with a new captain this year in the form of Harawal Wasam.
The toss was won by Radiant Stars who confidently chose to bowl first. Once again unfortunately, the tone could not be set by the top order batsmen and soon 3 wickets had fallen in the powerplay at 3-19 in 4.1 overs with Zaafer Butt and Rizwan Nasir causing the damage with the new ball.
A brief partnership between the experienced pair of Irfan and Qaiser restored some order for the side, however, the fall of their wickets lead to another lower-order collapse, and the batting side was struggling at 87-7 in 14 overs. Once again, batting depth for the strikers came to the rescue after a late-innings counterattack by Hamza Iqbal propelled his team to put on a respectable total, having scored 41 off 21 at a strike rate of 195! The strikers ended their innings with a total of 145 in their 20.
The Stars were steady in their response to the total, but the slow run rate in the powerplay and loss of two wickets by the 5th over with the score being 2-28 might have put them in a spot of bother knowing the skilled bowlers available to the strikers. Captain Harawal was watchful throughout the innings at number 3, whilst Khurram Goraya led the charge by scoring a dominating 48 off 30, at a strike rate of 160! In cruise control, Harawal took the responsibility of seeing off the total and finishing with 55 (40 balls), playing a perfect anchor role, and picking up 2 points for his team.
