The Conquerors and Challengers lined up for a monumental clash to decide who will face the Victorious Royals later on in the big finale
The toss was won by Faizan Warraich (captain of the Conquerors) and elected to bat first on what looked like a good wicket.
Munaf and Bilal eased the nerves of their team with a decent start, producing a 30-run partnership in 3 overs for the opening stand. The wicket of Munaf lead to another 30 run partnership between Abid and Bilal, but two wickets in close proximity (Abid and Bilal departing) by Salman Jajja (2-24) meant that the Challengers had kept things reasonably in check with the score at 77-3 in first 10 overs.
‘The left-handed twin’ Shahzad played a good hand as an anchor for his side whilst other batsmen from the Conquerors all provided brief but impactful cameos. Notably captain Faizan and All-rounder Mohsaf (27 off 12) provided good runs for their side at strike rates of 225 enabled a good 10 overs for the Conquerors, amassing 104 runs and pushing the total to 181-9.
The Conquerors had put up a good total in a big Semi Final. With the required run rate for the Challengers at 9, the MC knew that their bowling had to be on the money considering the prodigious firepower that the Challengers possessed in their lineup.
Safwan and Usman both started of cautiously but well, picking the right opportunities to cut loose and hit the boundaries. The first major breakthrough was provided by Mohsaf, with Safwan hitting one straight into the hands of Munaf at mid on! A big set back which surmounts to a lot of pressure, others such as Salman, Usman, and Faizan could not leave an impression in this chase. At 4-63 on the stroke of 10 overs, Muha Ud Deen, alongside his captain Tahir, had a lot of work to do with not much to follow after.
Knowing the importance of this partnership, Atta, Haris, and Naghman did well to contain the Challengers who required 90 to win in 42 balls. Muha Ud Deen who had been at the crease for long enough now knew that he had to unleash, and so he did by taking down Atta for a whopping 26 runs in his 3rd over of the spell. The chase was now on, and Muha Ud Deen was looking possessed and ready to take this game home for his side. Under immense pressure now, the Conquerors had to hold their nerve as the pacers were brought in to see off the threat. Faizan, Anas, and Harris brought their A game, and finally, a 90-run partnership between Muhayuddin and Tahir (36 off 37) was broken by Harris in the 18th over.
With Muha Ud Deen still not out on 50 (striking at 200) at the crease, 33 needed in the last two overs was still a possibility. Anas came in to bowl the crucial penultimate over with Hafiz Marfood in his sights. Two fours and a six on the first three balls put all the pressure back on the bowling side! 19 required off 9 balls and Anas was once again clubbed towards deep midwicket, but the ball landed safely into the hands of the tall imposing figure of Faizan Warraich, and the pressure once again shifted towards the batting side!
Harris Usman who was now the leading wicket taker of the league had a big role to do with Muha Ud Deen (66* off 33 balls) in front of him, and 19 runs between both sides and a semi final spot. The final battle between the two gun all-rounders was underway, and Muha Ud Deen wanted to manipulate the field looking to ramp towards fine leg, however the pace of Harris got the better of him as the ball clipped the ball with Muha Ud Deen missing! This was the wicket that sealed the win for the Conquerors, as the remaining batsmen from the Challengers could not clear the boundary 3 times in the last 5 balls.
A semi-final of high pressure, elite performances, and top quality cricket came to a close with the Conquerors marching on to face the Royals. Haris Usman 3-23 in a high scoring game was crucial for his side to defend the total (awarded MOTM), but the clutch performance by Muha Ud Deen (66 off 34) will be one to remember for ages, as he singlehandedly nearly stole the show.
