AMYA Statement

17 May 2021

The UK’s oldest and largest Muslim youth group, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association UK (AMYA), categorically condemns the horrific cruelty being inflicted on innocent Palestinians.

AMYA is deeply troubled by the targeting of innocent Palestinians who are being subjected to unconscionable injustice. Moreover, reports that Palestinians are being denied basic human rights, such as access to medical care, are of grave concern.Speaking about the ongoing hostilities to millions of worshippers during his Eid-ul-Fitr sermon, the worldwide Caliph of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, said:“The (Israeli) police are using tear gas and bullets and now airstrikes have started. They say they are targeting their enemies and militants, but, in reality, horrific and unjust cruelties are taking place and innocent civilians are being attacked… If they (the Palestinians) are using sticks, they are being subjected to heavy missiles and sophisticated weaponry. There is no comparison in terms of the force being used by both sides. May Allah have mercy on the oppressed and may He bring the oppressors to justice.”
Thousands of members of AMYA UK are now being mobilised to reach out to local MPs and organisations in order to raise their concerns about the plight of the Palestinian people.

Abdul Quddus Arif, National President of AMYA UK, said: ‘‘According to the teachings of Islam, AMYA works tirelessly to cultivate in its members a sense of universal justice and morality. In reality, these are values common to all peace-loving people. It is only right, then, that our members reach out to their MPs and remind them, under the banners of #SupremacyofJustice and #InnocentLivesMatter, about the plight of the Palestinian nation and the peaceful role we all should be playing in bringing about real change.’’

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad also spoke about conflicts in the Arab World and Middle East. He said that whilst the Western world had openly expressed ‘outrage and concern’ at the situations in Syria and Libya, they did not seem as concerned about the plight of the Palestinian people.

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said: “This perceived double standard is causing grievances and malice to increase in the hearts of people from Muslim countries against the major powers of the world. This anger and animosity is extremely dangerous and could boil over and explode at any time… Let it be clear that I am not speaking in support or favour of any particular individual country. What I wish to say is that all forms of cruelty, wherever they exist, must be eradicated and stopped, regardless of whether they are perpetrated by the people of Palestine, the people of Israel or the people of any other country.”

The Khalifa also criticised the principle of veto power within international institutions. He said that the voting history of the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council showed that on certain occasions veto powers had been misused to assist cruelty, rather than to prevent it.

World Muslim Leader prays for innocent Victims of Israel-Palestine Conflict

26 July 2014

During his keynote address Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad discussed the major obstacles impeding long lasting world peace: the oppression of minority groups; corruption; the failure of governments to prevent cruelty and the failure of the United Nations to work as a united organisation where all countries were equal. The only solution, he said, lay in absolute justice and equity.

Speaking about the Middle East, he said that the Israeli offensive would have grave consequences. Although Palestine may not be blameless Israeli responses were wholly disproportionate. He said:

“Can those innocent children who saw their homes being destroyed; who saw their brothers and sisters being killed without any reason; who saw their helpless parents targeted whilst pleading for their lives; can those innocent children ever
erase those horrific scenes from their memories.”
