Both teams couldn’t afford to lose today, with the Stars in a slightly better position aiming for 7 points to end their league campaign and staking a claim in the play offs
Captain Harawal won the toss and elected to bat first at the LGCC home ground.
Tahir and Rizwan opened the innings for the stars and couldn’t really find any real fluency, with Tahir heading back to the pavilion with the score at 12-1 in 3 overs. An uphill task to rescue the powerplay and some momentum, captain Harawal brought his A game for the crunch match with an array of attacking strokes. Harawal (46* off 34 balls) had to leave due to an unfortunate injury but the form man Khurram Goraya took charge of the situation by adding a strong 45 off 29 balls. With some contribution by the lower middle order, the Stars were able to put up a total of 150 in their 20 overs.
Needing 7.5 runs per over to keep their hopes alive, the Warriors suffered the early set back with the loss of Laiq Mirza’s wicket. With a chance to apply early pressure, the Stars were probably seeing stars when Adeel Ahmed totally stunned them with an extreme counter-attacking approach as Adeel got the engine revving with some expansive strokes. Taking down anyone in his path, Adeel raced to a 27 ball 50, only to then ruin Nauman Ahmed’s day with an 18 run 11th over with the score now at 117-2. Adeel was then removed by Rana Waleed having scored a destructive 74 off 35 balls and leaving his side in a fantastic position for the remaining part of the match. Captain Hammad Butt wasted no time himself with a quick fire 25* off 13 balls (192 strike rate) and finishing the game off within the 15th over.
There couldn’t be anyone else besides Adeel Ahmad who deserved the MOTM award for his fantastic innings of 74 runs. A resounding victory for the Warriors whilst also propelling their net run rate in the process, giving them the slightest of hopes to finish with 6 points and ask the question with the nrr for the 4th position potentially. The Stars end their campaign with 5 points in the league table, having looked so good in the early stages with their totally new side from the previous years campaigns.
