By the sheer grace and mercy of Allah Almighty, we had the opportunity to hold the 5th National Talimi & Tarbiyyati Class in the beautiful campus of Jamia Ahmadiyya UK.
Although it was the fifth class held of its kind, it was the first time that the class was rebranded as the ‘Spring Retreat’. In total, 177 Khuddam and Atfal attended the class from 16 regions from across the country.
Preparation for the class commenced as far back as last October 2016 with the formation of the committee. After this, regular meetings were held with the Naib Nazimeen A’la to discuss new ways of engagement with the youth. The online registration form was set up in February, and Regional Qaideen and Nazimeen were contacted in order to promote the event.
Sadr Sahib Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya UK, graciously chaired a meeting with the committee a week prior to the class, in which valuable advice and instructions regarding the class were given.
Participants started arriving on Sunday 9th April, whereas the inaugural session was held on the morning of 10th April which was chaired by Respected Amer Safir, who delivered a very engaging interactive presentation on the topic of ‘Guidance and Farsightedness of Khalifatul Masih 5th.’
As per our tradition, a thorough schedule was set for the Khuddam & Atfal, which revolved around the 5 daily prayers, to derive full benefit from this event.
Khuddam & Atfal were divided into 7 classes, in which they were taught the syllabus according to their understanding and comprehension. The subjects that were taught during the week included:
1. Memorisation & Correct Pronunciation of the Holy Qur’an
2. Salaat with translation
3. Basic Islamic Knowledge
5. History of Islam & Ahmadiyyat
Two special subjects were added this year; the first revolving around the lecture of Hazrat Musleh Maud(ra) entitled ‘The Outset of Dissention in Islam’, and the second being a lesson on the harms and benefits of social media.
The timetable commenced with the congregational Tahajjud and Fajr prayers, followed by Dars. After breakfast, assembly was held at 9am with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, followed by a short tarbiyyati talk before being dismissed for lessons. In total, 5 lessons were taught daily, with a refreshments break taking place in between.
After classes, the Zuhr prayer was offered, followed by lunch. After lunch, the students had some recreational time, which was then followed by a daily waqar-e-amal of their accommodation.
This was followed by sports, in which students had the option of going to either the 4 astro turf pitches, or 2 badminton courts, that were hired at a sports centre nearby. Apart from this football and cricket were also held in the Jamia field, basketball in the courts next to the field. After this, the Asr prayer was offered.
Another means of Tarbiyyat were evening lectures given by members of the Jama’at who addressed certain topics according to their experience. This year we had the honour of hosting Asif Basit sb (Director of Programming for MTA International) who spoke on the topic of ‘Khilafat; our lifeline to success’, Usman Butt sahib (Mohtamim Sehet-e-Jismani) addressed the students on ‘Sports & Spirituality’, a workshop hosted by the Amoor-e-Tulaba and Sanat-o-Tajarat departments, a teambuilding exercise by the training & development team and an open question & answer session.
As always, the system of mentoring proved to be of great benefit, therefore all students were divided into groups of approximately 15, that were then mentored by a Jamia student. The mentor spent a specific time of the day with his group, during which they discussed problems faced by youth, especially relating to ‘Social Media’, ‘Teenage Issues & Challenges’ and ‘Obedience to Nizam-e-Jama’at’, ‘Khilafat’ answered any questions and held discussions with their groups, apart from building a personal and close relationship with the students. In this way, the mentor proved to be a great model to his group. Also, each day 2 groups were assigned to serve in the mess and a special session was held in which our team helped the Khuddam & Atfal to write a letter to beloved Huzoor Aqdas.
On behalf of Majlis Khudamul Ahmadiyya UK, I am grateful to the administration of Jamia Ahmadiyya UK for cooperating with us and allowing us access and the use of this blessed and beautiful site.
A special thanks has to be given to Jahangir Tariq Sahib and his Ziafat team, and the various regions who worked tirelessly throughout the class.
I am extremely thankful to the Naib Nazimeen-e-Ala, Sayyad Zainul-Abideen Sahib, Yousaf Aftab Sahib & Anas Rana Sahib, and other national Amilah members who have been coming regularly, the organisational committee of the class, the nazimeen and students of Jamia Ahmadiyya UK who worked night & day throughout the week.
